Lucy Grieve MA, VetMB, MRCVS, graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2007 and became the first intern for what was then the new diagnostic imaging internship at Rossdales Equine Diagnostic Centre. After completing this, she spent seven years as an in-house vet for Darley’s pre-training facility in Newmarket, where she worked on yearlings, two-year-olds in training, rehabilitation and the occasional National Hunt horse.
She returned to Rossdales in 2015 as an ambulatory assistant, with her main areas of interest including lameness, diagnostic imaging and poor performance.
In 2022, Lucy joined BEVA as veterinary projects officer – she is responsible for planning and implementing projects that include resources for BEVA members, researching issues that impact on equine health and veterinary services, and coordinating the Association’s responses to consultations.
Before joining the BEVA team, Lucy had been a member of BEVA council since 2012 and served as president in 2020-21. Through BEVA, she takes an active role in ongoing education of equine vets – writing articles, speaking at events and organising courses.
Lucy Grieve discusses the impact of this “taboo subject” on the UK equine population, as well as how vets can empower owners of overweight horses to make achievable changes.
